What is
Problem Gambling?
Problem gambling is gambling behavior that causes disruptions
in any area of life: psychological, social or
vocational. The term "Problem Gambling" includes,
but is not limited to, the condition known as "Pathological"
gambling or "Compulsive" gambling, a progressive addiction
characterized by increasing preoccupation with gambling, a need to
bet more and more frequently, restlessness or irritability when
attempting to stop gambling, "chasing" losses, and loss of
control demonstrated by continuation of gambling despite serious
consequences.
Problem Gambling is not
limited to those who frequent casinos, use slot machines, play poker
or engage in illegal activity, but can occur in those participating
in lotteries, keno or any other game of
chance.
